PREVIEW - the BN2 Islander ! AlphaSim announces it's third entry into the civilian FSX model scene with the famous Britten-Norman twin. The pictures below show the base texture scheme, with its highly accurate and authentic bump-mapped rivetry and weathering. The subsequent texture schemes (20 will be inlcuded) will be based on this background. The package will also debut our Bendix/King KLN-90 GPS unit. This incredible piece of software, produced by the award-winning Ernie Alston, mimics the real unit faithfully, and with a smoothness of operation never seen before in previous efforts to depict this complex unit. The superb sounds package is from TSS and sounds exactly like the real thing, both inside and out. Our VLE (Visual Load Editor) will be incorporated to change passenger weights (and their baggage) as well as toggle the usual RBF tags, chocks etc. Flight dynamics have been tested thoroughly by a large beta group, as has the GPS, extreme reliability and authenticity is guaranteed. The v-c will include full systems modelling and very hi-res bump-mapped, self shadowing textures. We are highly confident that the AlphaSim BN2 Islander will set a new benchmark for accuracy both in general appearance, flight dynamics and systems modelling. We are working hard to release the package before Christmas. AlphaSim is set to be major player in the civilian arena during 2009 !

Some AlphaSim customers have still not made the switch to FSX and so were a little disappointed when the new T-34C Turbo Mentor could not be released for FS2004. So we have released the old FS9 T-34C as freeware - the complete package with 2 texture sets, sounds and repaint kit included. New addition to the USA section - the T-34C Turbo Mentor ! AlphaSim's T-34C has been built as always to showcase both RealGauge technology and FSX visual effects, but in this case also to demonstrate the extent to which the cockpit systems of a light aircraft can be replicated in the sim. In fact, the model has been put together as a proposed training aid for the US Navy - Ensigns current on the type assisted with the development of the project, maximum realism is assured. All the usual and expected systems are replicated (in accordance with the T-34 Operator's Manual), however several highly innovative features (which inhibit normal operation and can even cause visible damage if procedures are not followed) are also included. Reading the (160 page, detailed, illustrated .pdf format) manual on this one is essential - there are several unique and realistic surprises in store for those who do not pay attention ! One special feature is the ability to use the blind-flying hood for IFR training. AlphaSim's VLE system (Visual Load Editor) is used to toggle pilots, wheel chocks, canopy and exhaust coverings and the blind-flying hood. Night lighting is also taken care of, both the usual flood as well as separate instrument lighting is present. The rear cockpit is modelled as fully as the front, so FSX users will be able to replicate true instructor-pilot on-line flying. SIX accurate, high-definition texture sets are supplied, all with custom specular maps as well as amazing bump-mapping of the rivets and other prominent features. A 'lite' model version is included which lacks the rear cockpit for those who do not want to use the rear cockpit and maximise the FPS on lower-end systems. A Turbine Sounds Studios FSX-specific soundset provides the typical turboprop howl. Flight dynamics of course match the published specs and were approved by our US Navy pilot friends who beta-tested the model extensively. We think this model sets a new benchmark in systems modelling for light aircraft, to the extent that it could conceivably benefit a real-world student pilot. This level of accuracy and innovation is now the standard we will provide with all future releases. Announcement : Due to technical problems, the forum is no longer accessible. After much consideration, we have decided not to re-instate the forum. We are confident that a leaner AlphaSim is the way forward and this increased efficiency will result in more and better models and scenery in the coming years. We would also like to announce our partnership with the well-known FS publisher Flight One. Our B-24 and Hawker Hunter have already been released as boxed titles. A series of primarily civilian titles will also be released in the coming months, both on our site as well as through Flight one. Finally, many will have noticed that the ageing airfield scenery has been removed. This was done at the request of the author. It is not known at present whether the scenery will be available anywhere else. |

New addition to the Helicopters section - the Kaman SH-2 Seasprite ! Both versions of Kaman's utility helicopter (the F and G) feature in this extensive package for FSX (with optional FS2004 version). The 6 phenonomal texture sets (by esteemed FS artist 'Pierre') show amazing attention to detail and are enhanced further by FSX's bump mapping and self-shadowing features. There are custom bump and spec maps throughout the model. Lifelike crew figures wear colours appropriate to the aircraft and even have realistic helicopter-type helmets with radio umbilicals (crew are togglable). The models are compatible with the FSX shared cockpit feature. Both the New Zealand and Australian models carry a superbly-detailed M60 machine gun AGM-65 Mavericks and a FLIR turret. The virtual cockpit is a tour de force - it exceeds even the amazing H-60 and Ka-50 cockpits in terms of realism and usability - with no less than 154 individual animations (AlphaSim's RealGauge tech is used extensively), all normal operating systems are represented in 3D switches, including realistically-animated windscreen wipers. There is an accurate basic simulation of both the TACNAV monitor and central unit. The v-c night lighting is superbly realised, even the panel and console description texts are individually self-illuminated. Cockpit self-shadowing is also available to FSX DX10 users. The soundset was supplied by TSS and is the best helicopter sounds package we've heard, perfectly rising and falling in pitch with user application of the collective, including start-up and shut-down sounds. The flight model was carefully tuned and provides a realistically agile flight envelope for this sprightly machine. A 60-page, colour illustrated user manual in .PDF format covers all aspects of the package. Source textures are included for repainters. We think the new AlphaSim Seasprite is the an ideal showcase for FSX and is also the pinnacle of its type, setting the quality and features benchmark for other FSX helicopters to follow ...

The iconic Blackhawk helicopter has finally arrived for FSX and FS9 - seven jaw-dropping variants of the majestic H-60 series make up this superior AlphaSim package. Whether it's humanitarian, transport, medevac, airborne assault or specops, this package covers all bases. The highly accurate models come in various configurations and of course seven masterfully-detailed texture sets. Users of the true-FSX package of course benefit from all the special graphical features (inlcuding cockpit self-shadowing with DX10/SP2) which that sim has to offer. Even FS9 users get an amazing package in terms of detail. New addition to the Civilian section - the Cessna 170B ! We've added a new section to our Store - the Budget Civilian Section. This super little Cessna demonstrates the type of models we will be selling here. The ultra-low price of $18 US Dollars gets you a suprisingly high quality FS2004 model. Veteran FS modeller Chris Lampard has provided detailed exterior and interior models of this famous classic GA aircraft - there is even a detailed engine which is revealed when the cowl opens. Many small details are present, even individually-modelled rivets ! The very low (by today's standards) poly count will be of great benefit to those with lower-spec systems who struggle to run the newer releases. The total download size is only 2.5 MB, textures are crisp, but small and easy to edit. Default sounds and gauges are used and there is no 2D panel - although this is not really needed as the gauges in the v-c are crisp and easy to read. The usual keypresses bring up the radios and other useful items. We hope this new approach finds ethusiastic customers as we have a considerable lineup of budget-range classic GA and sports models to come ! We also hope this will nicely complement the parallel range of state-of-the-art major civilian releases we also have in the pipeline. Something for everybody at AlphaSim ! New addition to the RAF/RN section - the Panavia Tornado F.3 ! The awesome Tornado Air Defence Variant arrives in true state-of-the-art fashion for both FS9 and FSX. Over 12 months in development, the AlphaSim 'Tonka' has it all - spread over 2 separate packages (main and expansion), NINE unique models and NINE unique texture sets provide coverage of the F.3's many guises, even Saudi and Italian AF F.3's are included. All texture sets are of course very highly detailed and authentic with classic weathering patterns. The Tornado's many moving parts are all taken care of - swing wings, canopy, exhaust nozzles, reverser buckets, automatic blow-in doors and refuelling probe are realistically animated. Random pilot figure animations add extra realism. The sim's tailhook function is used to toggle the remove-before-flight tags, intake/exhaust blanks & chocks. Each model variant has crew with unique flight suits and editable shoulder patches. The 2D panel is a major work of art in its own right, authentic dial gauges, a detailed HUD and pop-up auxiliary panels make flying the AlphaSim Tornado a joy, the FSX version includes AlphaSim's interceptor radar where all AI aircraft can be tracked and identified. New addition to the USA section - the B-24 Liberator ! This groundbreaking package features both the glazed-nose B-24D and the turret-nosed B-24G/J variants and five super-detailed texture sets which depict bare-metal, desert and olive drab schemes, all with carefully-drawn authentic nose art. This model package also debuts the AlphaSim 'Visual Load Editor' (VLE), a unique in-game graphical user interface where you can toggle on and off parts of the model such as the crew and bombload (aircraft weight will be updated automatically as bombs are loaded or unloaded). The package is for both FS9 and FSX, the FSX version is of course fully-featured with bump mapping, self-shadowing, bloom effect and v-c self shadowing for SP2/DX10 users. The FSX model beautifully demonstrates 2048-pixel texturing at its best, the sharpness has to be seen to be believed ! An amazing set of sounds by TSS are included with an FSX-specific version with 'soundcone' tech. The superlative quality continues with the panel suite, amazing detail abounds with custom-made B-24 gauges and authentically-styled popups for fuel, throttles and electrical systems. The v-c has every switch and knob of the real machine, but will not need a high-spec PC to run it. 'The Ultimate Interceptor' arrives for FSX and FS9, both single-seat and 2-seater configurations are included with three authentic texture sets each. A full compliment of AIM-4G Falcon missiles can be swung out from the bomb bay and targets can be tracked using our versatile Tracking Radar system (radar is FSX only). New addition to the Civilian section - the Gee Bee Super Sportster ! The unmistakable Granville Brothers creation is an icon of the pre-war era, both famous for its success and infamous for killing its pilots. The AlphaSim package provides both Super Sportster variants - the R1 and the more powerful R2. Both FS9 and FSX versions are fully featured with AlphaSim RealGauge tech, high-gloss reflective textures, sounds by TSS and accurate flight dynamics. The Gee Bees were only awkward to fly on take-off and landing, in the air they were really outstanding and the two seperate flight models reflect this. The detailed virtual cockpit has full 'systems modelling', all the necessary startup/fuel components are modelled in 3D and are of course mousable, including a hand-held radio. As usual, the FSX model is the best way to enjoy this package - the textures are incredible in their 2048-pixel resolution, the smallest text is crisp and legible. Of course self-shadowing and (minimal) bump-mapping are there, and SP2/DX10 users get the added benefit of cockpit self-shadowing too ! For those who have not yet experienced our awesome Rutan 61, the AlphaSim RealGauge technology provides instruments fully modelled in 3D, faces, needles and other components are part of the 3D aircraft model and not simply stuck-on bitmaps. New addition to the USA section - the F-105D Thunderchief ! Republic Aviation's famous fighter-bomber makes a state-of-the-art comeback at AlphaSim, featuring FOUR amazing texture sets (both camo and bare-metal schemes) as well as SIX loadout options - most typical 'Thuds' are represented in this top-notch package. The v-c has every switch and knob of the real machine, but will not need a high-spec PC to run it. Both FSX and FS9 versions are available for a single price - although it's the FSX one which really stands out with its self-shadowing (V-C self shadowing too, for SP2/Acceleration users), subtle bump mapping and bloom fx (fantastic on the bare-metal schemes !). Custom animations for the famous F-105 tail 'petals' provide the various positions of these large appendages and a working drag chute provides the decelleration on touchdown. New addition to the USA section - the EA-6B Prowler ! The unmistakable shape of the EA-6B has been faithfully reproduced in this superlative AlphaSim package. The Prowler is depicted with 4 loadouts and 6 stunning hi-res texture schemes, spanning three decades. The loadouts include ECM pods, AGM-88 HARM missile and aux. fuel tanks. Just like our amazing Intruder, the Prowler model has a stunning virtual cockpit. New addition to the Helicopters section - the Sikorsky CH-53A Sea Stallion ! Developed from AlphaSim's stellar Pavelow III package, the Sea Stallion easily matches that legendary model in terms of all-round quality. Five superbly-detailed texture sets by the equally legendary 'Pierre' depict this early variant Sea Stallion in some very typical schemes - three USMC and two German Army liveries, each quite unique, complete with fine detail and weathering. The Pavelow cockpit and panel have been replaced with the older-type version, complete with amazingly realisitic gauges. In the effects department, a subtle smoke trail adds realism and all the Pavelow anims are there, with the bonus of a folding tail ! The FS9 version has the usual v-c rain fx, but also benefits from a lowerable winch cable. FSX of course excels with the self-shadowing, bump mapping and reflection bloom fx, as well as v-c self-shadowing for users of FSX Service Pack 2 (requires DX10, Vista). Sounds are from the Pavelow, the flight dynamics have been given the necessary tweaks to depict this older Sikorsky.
